Break Coffee Co. in Portland is a local franchise run by Todd Etchieson. The program is straightforward: café-style drinks in the office, made from whole beans and real milk, with a local team that installs the equipment and keeps it stocked and clean.
Todd moved to Portland more than twenty years ago. He spent about three decades as an engineer and product leader—including time at New Relic, Janrain, and Conversica—before opening Break Coffee PDX. He still does some fractional product work. The coffee business is owner-operated, so questions about a floor or a trial go to him rather than a national call center.
What the program includes
Offices get Swiss bean-to-cup machines as part of a managed service. Drinks are ground per cup. Lattes and cappuccinos use fresh milk, not powder. There are no pods. Beans, milk handling, cleaning, and maintenance sit on a weekly or biweekly schedule based on how much the office actually drinks.
For a typical Portland office, published starting rates are $100 per week or $399 per month. The machine and visit cadence are sized to the floor during a site review.
Where we work
Service covers the Portland metro, not only downtown. That includes Portland, Beaverton, Hillsboro, Tigard, Tualatin, and Lake Oswego, plus other office sites in the area.
Commute time on Highway 26, 217, and I-5 is the usual reason companies look at this. If people have to leave the building for a decent drink, they lose a meaningful part of the morning. Hybrid schedules make the days people are in the office matter more.
Why this is different from pods
Pod machines are familiar, but the drinks are weaker than what Portland employees expect, and the waste adds up. A bean-to-cup station with real milk is closer to what people buy down the street. It is also easier to explain to facilities and sustainability teams than another case of single-use capsules.
Trying it
Most offices start with a two-week trial on the busiest floor. Equipment goes in, someone on the floor gets a short training, and the local team restocks and cleans. You can see whether people use it before you commit to a longer program.
Building access varies—downtown freight elevators, suburban lots, badge rules. Those details get sorted before the first visit.
